The drivers were observed rolling well below the speed limit, clearly sizing each other up as they cruised toward Nicholas Parkway.
Then, with a sudden surge, both vehicles blasted forward, their engines echoing off nearby shops and new construction sites that dot the area.
Police response was immediate, with the officer closing in, emergency lights flashing in the night.
The chase ended quickly as both cars pulled over near the 900 block of SW Pine Island Road, an area experiencing a wave of development and increased pedestrian activity.
Officers approached the drivers, one of whom has been identified as Anthony Grass Perez.

Hope the city keeps this pressure up. One arrest is great but this needs to be consistent enforcement all year long.
Street racing is not cool. It stopped being cool the second you took it off a closed course and onto a public road.

The new construction sites out there have so many workers coming and going. Racing through that area is beyond irresponsible.
